National Apprenticeship Week 2023
February 6, 2023

Here at projectfive, we’re big believers in nurturing young talent, which is why we’ve been hiring apprentices for the last 13 years.

Our Training & Progression Director, Phil Dear, explains why this is an important part of our business strategy:

“Finding high quality talent in our industry and region is always a challenge, so investing in Apprentices allows us to get those talented people first and then nurture and develop them in line with our core values. This has led to us having a younger, more talented and better qualified team, who are frankly a lot of fun to be around.”

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2023, we wanted to spotlight two of our team that have just passed their apprenticeship with a Distinction! Meet Nick and Cameron…

NickWilliams, Technical Engineer

Congratulations on receiving a distinction for your Apprenticeship – how do you feel?
Amazing! I was hard on myself in the run-up to my results, but upon hearing I had a distinction, all my worries disappeared.

You also won the award for ‘Top Tech Talent in ICT’ which is fantastic!
Discovering that I had won the award brought even more joy to my success as an apprentice, and I am very proud of myself, as are those around me.

Why did you choose to follow the Apprenticeship route?
I’ve been tech-savvy since a very young age, I felt an apprenticeship was the ideal option to prove myself and build my skills along the way.

What would you say to anyone considering an Apprenticeship?
Take in every bit of knowledge you can, and don’t be afraid to ask others for help, we’re all in this boat together!

CameronMeylanJunior Infrastructure Engineer

Congratulations on receiving a distinction for your Apprenticeship – how do you feel?
Proud of myself and fellow learners who put in the hours and pushed themselves to achieve something great.

Why did you choose to follow the Apprenticeship route?
I’ve never liked the traditional Academic learning style. I completed a BTECH in College and loved the more hand on practical approach to learning. From there I learned about apprenticeships and knew going straight into the workplace was right for me.

What would you say to anyone considering an Apprenticeship?
Go for it! There are many apprenticeships at different levels designed to fit your needs. Getting hands-on, real job experience is invaluable and will boost your career easily.
