As well as fixing computers and keeping our customers’ technology running smoothly, we’re big believers in giving something back.
And that’s just what we did this week when we took part in the Collingwood College Careers Fair in Camberley.
We set up our bright orange stand (we definitely stood out!), put some cool techy bits on display for the kids to try and waited for the doors to open. Over the course of the day, we saw all year groups from 7-11, plus sixth form students.
We had a steady stream of interest in our stand throughout the day and our Techie Apprentices, Azhar and Cameron, did a fantastic job of engaging the students, answering their questions about a career in IT and teaching them how to make a network cable. We definitely saw some young techies in the making!
What really stood out for us was the enthusiasm and excitement that the students displayed – it was a breath of fresh air to see their interest in the various career options available to them, and quite a few of them already knew what they wanted to do.
For us, it was a great opportunity to share what we do here at projectfive – and bust the myth that IT is just Ctrl + Alt + Del! I think they were surprised by the range of things that fall under the ‘IT umbrella’ and it was exciting to see them leaving with a spark of inspiration about what they could go on to achieve.
