Apple Event 2020: what’s new
September 16, 2020

The highly anticipated Apple event took place on 15th September. There was no mention of a new handset, but it’s believed that this will be unveiled in the next few weeks.

Here’s what you need to know…

 

Apple Watch Series 6
The undeniable star of the show was the new Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE, both with a huge emphasis on health and wellbeing.

  • Starts at $399 (sterling equivalent unknown at time of publishing)
  • 30% larger face than previous models
  • New S6 chip processor, which is 20% faster than the Series 5’s chip
  • watchOS 7 includes Family Setup, sleep tracking, automatic handwashing detection, new workout types, and the ability to curate and share watch faces
  • Sensor to track blood oxygen saturation (which helps track breathing and heart rate in more detail)
  • Fall detection
  • Accelerometer, gyroscope, and always-on altimeter
  • An always-on display that’s 2.5 times brighter than the Series 5
  • New wrist bands, including the ‘Solo Loop’ (expands to slip over your hand and onto your wrist without needing a clasp)

 

Apple Watch SE

  • A more budget-friendly offering at $279 (sterling equivalent unknown at time of publishing)
  • Features the same accelerometer, gyroscope, and always-on altimeter as Apple Watch Series 6
  • Includes the new Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop bands

A new operating system that redesigns the experience of the iPhone. Includes:

  • Redesigned widgets on the home-screen
  • App Library – a new way to organise your apps
  • App Clips – a new and faster way to experience apps when you need them
