If there’s one thing we like to do here at projectfive, it’s give something back – and we were able to do just that when we attended the Shape Careers Day at Tomlinscote School in Frimley, sponsored by Surrey Chambers.
We set up our bright orange stand (we definitely stood out!), put some cool techy bits on display for the kids to try and waited for the doors to open. At 10.30am the first groups flooded in and it was show-time!
We had a steady stream of interest in our stand throughout the day and our Techies, Scott and Steven, did a fantastic job of engaging the students, answering their questions about a career in IT and teaching them how to make a network cable. We definitely saw some young techies in the making!
What really stood out for us was the enthusiasm and excitement that the students displayed – it was a breath of fresh air to see their interest in the various career options available to them, and quite a few of them already knew what they wanted to do.
For us, it was a great opportunity to share what we do here at projectfive – and bust the myth that IT is just Ctrl + Alt + Del! I think they were surprised by the range of things that fall under the ‘IT umbrella’ and it was exciting to see them leaving with a spark of inspiration about what they could go on to achieve.
A huge thank you to Surrey Chambers for organising the event and to Tomlinscote School for hosting. We hope the students enjoyed the day as much as we did!
