The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run 2008
This year, we were honoured to take part in yet another London to Brighton Veteran Car run.
Steve and Andy took it in turns to drive the 1905 Renault, whilst Hazel and Sarah and the children all had the chance to dress up in Edwardian clothes and take part in the world’s oldest motoring event.
550 cars set off from Hyde Park very early on the traditional first Sunday in November and took to the route out of London, through Streatham, Brixton, Croydon and Crawley before heading up into the South Downs hills along the old A23 before descending into Brighton.
The weather was fantastic this year, but ‘Big Daisy’ (the 1905 Renault) had a few mechanical hiccups. We had to contend with a fuel pick-up problem, an electrical problem with the magneto, and a throttle linkage problem.
But, we still made it to Brighton in good time with smiles on our faces!
This year we were lucky enough to be asked to film a video diary – so we’ll be eagerly awaiting the release of this year’s official DVD to see how much of our footage was used.
And, if anyone knows anybody in China, then we were interviewed by Chinese Television whilst attending the Concours Parade in London’s Regent Street on the Saturday!
